Saban gives injury update on Alabama’s Jase McClellan before Georgia game

Alabama football could be without its starting running back on Saturday when it faces Georgia in the SEC championship game. Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban did not sound particularly optimistic about Jase McClellan’s health on Thursday during a press conference.

According to Saban, McClellan has not been fully participating this week.

“He’s not been able to do a lot,” Saban said. “We’ll see how he does today.”

McClellan played in Saturday’s Iron Bowl thriller at Auburn. However, he was spotted on crutches leaving the field with a boot on.

Saban said after the game that the issue was a foot injury McClellan has dealt with throughout the season and reaggravated against the Tigers.

“We’d have to say he’s probably questionable for the game at this point but it’s probably too early to tell,” Saban said Thursday.

McClellan leads Alabama in rushing yards this season with 803, along with six touchdowns. The group behind him includes Roydell Williams, who has 497 yards and four touchdowns.

Other running backs who could see more action include Jam Miller, Justice Haynes and Richard Young. Saban has praised the depth of the running backs room this season.

No. 8 Alabama faces No. 1 Georgia in the conference title game this week, with a chance at making the College Football Playoff on the line. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. CT Saturday in Atlanta and will be aired on CBS.
